Profile

List your interests, experience, and affiliations to better connect with other service-learning practitioners and share your experience. If you do not add a profile picture, a sample picture will be randomly assigned. Pictures help the GSN sustain a close community of service-learning practitioners.

Formatting text

This website uses Textile to enable simple formatting anywhere you can type multiple lines of text, such as descriptions and comments. Here's some sample markup:

A *simple* paragraph with
a line break, some _emphasis_ and a "link":http://www.nylc.org

* an item
* and another

# numbered list one
# numbered list two

The markup produces this formatted text:

A simple paragraph with
a line break, some emphasis and a link

• an item
• and another

1. numbered list one
2. numbered list two

See the full textile formatting manual at http://redcloth.org/textile.

Creating a New Project

Creating a project is an excellent way to share your insights, get valuable input, and collaborate on planning work. Accurately describing and tagging your project helps to make it a valuable part of the community; you must select 1-2 tags from each category to define the project?s topic and scope. Don?t forget to add a photo for your project!

Once your project is begun, add your documents and resources and use project discussions to collaborate and further document your progress. If you belong to a Group on the GSN you can share the project with your Group for easier access for group members.

Uploading Resource Files

When uploading files to your Group or Project, using the correct matching content type will help ensure that it displays correctly. For example, upload a photo as an Image, rather than a document.

To display a video for your Group or Project, you will need to host the video online, then paste the link to the video in the New Video resource page. Many different services are supported, we recommend YouTube and Vimeo as reliable free options.

Connect

The Connect page is the portal to all the groups and discussions on the GSN.

Creating a New Group

Use an accurate name and description for your group, and a Group tag that helps describe the purpose of the group formation. Upload a photo, logo, or other image that helps describe the group.

Creating a New Discussion

Discussions created here are for general topics. To create a discussion attached to a specific Topic, Project or Group, create a new discussion from that page.
