Online Professional Development Opportunities
The leaves are beginning to change, the air is getting brisk, and I am seeing lots of school busses.
Fall is here.
Students are getting back to school and educators are getting back to work for another wonderful year of service-learning. A group of GSN members are approaching this year with new insights on service-learning and a plan for implementation.
This group participated in the Essentials of Service-Learning pilot course, a professional development opportunity for people new to service-learning.
If you missed out on this opportunity, don't worry! That course will be offered again soon. If you are looking for something a bit more advanced, you are in luck. Now open for registration is the second pilot course for educators, Exploring Quality Service-Learning. This course is for participants who have been through a formal service-learning training or have experience implementing service-learning in the field. This opportunity will fill up quickly and next time it is offered it won't be free — so act fast!
In addition to our new courses, we are celebrating our fourth year of providing high quality webinars for FREE to our members. This year we have a variety of webinars from social media to action civics, as well as a series that follows the IPARD/C cycle. Sign up for these webinars HERE.
Did you know that we record all of our webinars and post them for 24/7 viewing? Check out the Learn section of the GSN to find a webinar and supporting resources that meet your needs. Have a suggestion for a webinar or interested in presenting? Email me, at email@example.com.
Is Service-Learning Outdated?
A recent article asserts just that. Cathryn Berger Kaye, a leader in the field, addresses this question and poses that service-learning is alive, well, and thriving. It's just a matter of how we talk about it.
Read what Cathryn had to say in the National Service-Learning Clearinghouse, now housed in the GSN. And as always, use the Clearinghouse to find relevant research, data, tools, and materials related to service-learning.
